I bow to you, O Durga, the giver of happiness,
I bow to you, O Ambe, the dispeller of sorrows.
You are the formless divine light,
Radiating across the three realms.

Jai ambe gauri maiya, jai shyama gauri
Tumko nish-din dhyavat, hari brahma shivji

**Meaning:**
Hail, O Mother Gauri, the beautiful and dark-complexioned one.
Day and night, I meditate upon you, who are worshipped by Vishnu, Brahma, and Shiva.

Mang sindur virajat, tiko mrigmadko,
Ujjwal se dou naina, chandra vadan niko

**Meaning:**
You are adorned with vermilion on your forehead and a mark of musk on your nose,
Your eyes are radiant and your face shines like the moon.

Kanan kundal shobhit, naasaagre moti,
Kotik chandra divaakar, samraajat jyoti

**Meaning:**
Your ears are adorned with earrings, and on the tip of your nose is a pearl,
You shine like millions of moons and suns put together, with a resplendent light.

Shumbh nishumbh vidare, mahishasur ghati
Dhumr vilochan naina, nish-din madmati

**Meaning:**
You destroyed the demons Shumbha, Nishumbha, and Mahishasura,
Your smoky eyes look intoxicated day and night.

Chand mund sanhare, shonit bij hare,
Madhu-kaitabh dou mare, sur bhay haare

**Meaning:**
You vanquished the demons Chanda, Munda, and the bloodthirsty demon Raktabija,
You killed Madhu and Kaitabha, and you remove the fears of the Devas.

Brahmani, rudrani, tum kamala rani,
Aagam-nigam bakhaani, tum shiv patrani

**Meaning:**
You are Brahma's consort, and also Shiva's beloved,
The scriptures sing your praises, and you are the recipient of Lord Shiva's devotion.

Chausath yogini gaavat, nritya karat bhairon,
Baajat taal mridanga, aur baajat damroo

**Meaning:**
The sixty-four Yoginis sing your glories, and Bhairava dances to their tune,
The musical instruments like the cymbals, drums, and the Damroo (Shiva's small drum) resound in your honor.

Tum ho jag ki maata, tum hi ho bharta,
Bhaktan ki dukh hartaa, sukh sampati kartaa

You are the Mother of the universe, and you are its sustainer,
You alleviate the sorrows of your devotees and bestow upon them joy and prosperity.

Bhuja chaar ati shobhit, var mudrika dhaari,
Manvanchhit phal paavat, sevat nar naari

Your four arms are resplendent, and you hold a boon-granting symbol (mudrika),
Those who serve you, men and women alike, attain their desired goals.

Kanchan thaal virajat, agar kapur baati,
Shrimalaketu mehraj, birajat tihaun maati

**Meaning:**
You are seated on a golden throne, with an incense of camphor burning,
In the kingdom of Shri Malakhetu, you manifest in all directions.

Kar me khappar khadag, vajra katari,
Sohe astra aur trishula, jase upar maari

You hold a skull cup, a sword, a thunderbolt, and a dagger,
You are adorned with various weapons, as if ready to strike down evil forces.

Jaako dekh kal dan, chhati maha sukhi,
Kaamatur ati shok-hin, mohhin na vyapati

You are devoid of desires, completely free from sorrow, and untouched by delusion.

Tum sansar shakti layi, vishnu roop dhari,
Brahmaani rudrani tum kamala raani
